BuildMaterialCalc

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026. This Privacy Policy describes how BuildMaterialCalc ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit buildmaterialcalc.com. We comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable state laws.

1. Summary

  • We do not require an account to use any calculator.
  • Calculator inputs run in your browser — they are never sent to us.
  • We use Google AdSense to show ads (with your consent).
  • We use Google Analytics 4 for aggregate site stats (with your consent).
  • You can change or revoke your consent at any time via the footer.

2. Data we collect

Server logs

Our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically logs basic technical data on each request: anonymized IP address, timestamp, requested URL, HTTP status code, referrer, user-agent, and approximate file size. Server logs are retained for up to 14 days for security and troubleshooting (legal basis: legitimate interest in IT security, GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

Cookies and similar technologies

We distinguish between strictly necessary cookies (none currently in use) and non-essential cookies used for advertising and analytics. Non-essential cookies are only set after you grant consent through our cookie banner (legal basis: consent, GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).

3. Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) to display contextual or — with your explicit consent — personalized advertising. AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies (e.g., from doubleclick.net) and may process your IP address, user-agent, prior interactions, and device information.

Google may transfer your data to servers in the United States. Google is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF), which provides an adequacy decision under GDPR Art. 45. See the Google Privacy Policy for details. You can opt out of personalized ads at adssettings.google.com.

4. Google Analytics 4 (optional)

When you grant analytics consent, we load Google Analytics 4 with IP-anonymization enabled. GA4 helps us understand which calculators are used and how to improve the site. Data is processed by Google LLC; the same DPF certification applies.

5. Funding Choices (CMP)

We use Google Funding Choices, an IAB TCF v2.2-certified Consent Management Platform, to record and respect your consent choices. Funding Choices stores a TCString cookie containing the timestamp and contents of your decision (legal basis: legal obligation to document consent under GDPR Art. 7).

6. Your rights (GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15)
  • Rectify inaccurate data (Art. 16)
  • Erase your data (Art. 17)
  • Restrict processing (Art. 18)
  • Object to processing (Art. 21)
  • Receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20)
  • Withdraw consent at any time, with future effect (Art. 7(3))
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address on our contact page.

7. Your rights (CCPA / California residents)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of any "sale" of personal information. We do not sell personal information, but AdSense\'s use of cookies for personalized advertising may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" under California law. Use the cookie banner or the footer settings link to opt out at any time.

8. Data retention

Server logs: up to 14 days. Consent records: until you withdraw or two years, whichever is sooner. AdSense and Analytics data are retained per Google\'s policies — typically 14 months for analytics events.

9. Security

The site is served over HTTPS with HSTS, and we follow industry standard practices to protect data in transit. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect new features, regulatory changes, or service-provider updates. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly.
