How to use this calculator
- Enter the feet value. Decimals are fine — e.g. 5.75 for 5' 9".
- Read the meters result. Primary result is meters with 4-decimal precision. The stats include cm and inches.
- Reverse the conversion. For meters to feet, multiply by 3.281 (or divide by 0.3048).
Formula
Meters = Feet × 0.3048
Worked example
8 feet × 0.3048 = 2.4384 meters — close to 2.5 m, the typical European ceiling height. A 10 ft U.S. ceiling equals 3.048 m, slightly above European norms.
Tips for accurate results
- 1 foot = 0.3048 meters exactly — this has been the international definition since 1959.
- A useful approximation: 1 m ≈ 3.28 ft, or 100 ft ≈ 30.5 m.
- For tall measurements, remember: 1 story is roughly 10 ft (3.05 m) and a typical residential ceiling is 8 ft (2.44 m).
- Beware "U.S. survey foot" — used in some land survey documents — it differs from the international foot by 2 parts per million. Negligible for buildings, real for property lines.
